As a Black child, I grew up feeling like I didn’t see myself represented in the toys I played with. The dolls I had were all white, with blonde hair and blue eyes. I didn’t feel like I could relate to them, and it made me feel like I was somehow less than.
That’s why I’m so excited about the new Rainbow High Victoria Whiteman doll. Victoria is a Black doll with brown skin, curly hair, and brown eyes. She’s finally a doll that I can see myself in, and I know that other Black children will feel the same way.
Victoria is more than just a doll. She’s a symbol of representation and inclusion. She’s proof that Black children are just as important as any other children, and that we deserve to see ourselves represented in the toys we play with.
I’m so grateful that Rainbow High created Victoria Whiteman. She’s a role model for Black children everywhere, and she’s an important step towards a more inclusive world.
